This year, we mark one year since the launch of our Connected Together scheme. The scheme which launched in 2020, provides a digital device to those in need and dedicated one to one support through a Phoenix Digital Champion.
Since the start of the pandemic, the digital has been a necessity for many. From home working and learning to socialising and job hunting, it has been a source of connection during an increasingly isolated time.
Phoenix Community Housing resident, Hilary Newton, who received a device after struggling with online job applications, said: “I was determined to secure a new job and had been checking for vacancies on my phone. It was getting frustrating as most applications required a laptop. That’s when I found out I had been referred for a laptop through the Connected Together scheme and for career coaching through the Roots into Work programme.
“It’s important to reach out if you’re unhappy about something or if you need support. Now that I know the services are available, I would definitely recommend them to any other residents going through a difficult time.”

Last year, we were able to gift 4000 GB of data, 116 Chromebooks, 27 tablets and 20 smartphones which were funded through donations to our Connected Together scheme.
Phoenix resident, Amel Kebladj, who received a laptop through the scheme, said: “If you're isolated or in need of a new device but can't afford to buy one, I'd really recommend getting in touch with the Connected Together programme. It was a really quick and easy process to get the device, and it's been such a big help having the new laptop!"
