Residents gathered for Fire Safety Day!

Updated: 23 June 2022 at 12:40pm

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Fire Safety Day on Saturday 18 June!

On the day, younger residents became Fireman Sam for the day as they explored a fire engine and activity packs, while others enjoyed tips to stay fire safe at home through hazard spotting and an introduction to the history of fire safety.

Phoenix resident, Dawn Elimlahi, who attended the event, said: “It’s been a great event to learn tips to stay fire safe. I’ll definitely be looking out for more fire hazards at home now that I've been in the hazard room.”

The free event, held at The Green Man, hosted London Fire Brigade’s Bromley Red Watch team and provided an opportunity for event-goers to ask the experts about fire safety at home.

Carmen Simpson, Chair of Phoenix Community Housing and tenant, said: “It was fantastic to see residents interested in such an important topic. It’s not just about being safe at home, it’s about feeling safe and it’s important that we empower residents through knowledge sharing.”

Last year, we launched our resident-led Building Safety Programme Board to respond to the national changes in fire and building safety legislation which were introduced in the light of the tragic events at Grenfell in 2017.

The event was an opportunity for residents to learn more about the legislation changes, how residents can get involved and about the steps we’re taking to keep residents safe.
